I was involved in a place called Anything Should Happen (hence the IDHAS email) that celebrated the under appreciated, but in a lost or long deleted album sort of way. We celebrated James Clarke Five as much as is humanly possible without exploding with enthusiasm.</p><p>So it was delightful to see the release of Parlor Sounds in 2019 and that appeared in our Best 100 Albums of that year. You can read the album review <b><a href="https://hearasingle.blogspot.com/2019/06/james-clark-five-parlor-sounds.html" target="_blank">here</a></b>. I've talked enough in the past of my adoration of intelligent Indie, so suffice to say that the Ex Cherry Boy fits that bill and more.</p><p>Zoom And The Gadflies is an album of two halves, not that a JC5 ever could be that completely because every song is inventively different. But it does apply here, because in visiting the types of music that influenced him listening wise the direction changes. There are no need for cover songs when you have as wandering mind as Jimmy Hughes.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=4019537922/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2679536175/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://jamesclarkefive.bandcamp.com/album/zoom-and-the-gadflies">Zoom and The Gadflies by James Clarke Five</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>It gets Electronic as the album progresses, simply because his influences did. What is not in doubt is that everything works. The Indie is still melodic, but incredibly left field. The Electro or Synth Pop is really really catchy. </p><p>Over those first songs you get the Adam And The Ants Burundi Beat of (Who's Been On The) Big Rock Candy, The Protectors TV Theme like Ghost and the Acoustic Pop Rock (with a nod to George Michael's Faith) of Pineapple Rock that incorporates a stomping chorus and a Psych Pop riff.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=4019537922/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1997938440/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://jamesclarkefive.bandcamp.com/album/zoom-and-the-gadflies">Zoom and The Gadflies by James Clarke Five</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Add in the Piano Jazz of Manhattan Rock, the wonderful UK Glam Rock of Gadfly Groove and the fairground joy of D'You Not Think with another killer chorus. The remaining five songs are very different, but as enjoyable. </p><p>It's Been So Long is great 80s Synth Pop, incredibly catchy and Buddy and Joe is cinema organ like twang. Zoomdust is short and ethereal and Hot Chicory Bop is an Electro Funk instrumental. All of this is rounded out by the splendid Pop Rock of Goodbye Patience. Absolutely Wonderful!</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=4019537922/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3387526300/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://jamesclarkefive.bandcamp.com/album/zoom-and-the-gadflies">Zoom and The Gadflies by James Clarke Five</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://jamesclarkefive.bandcamp.com/album/zoom-and-the-gadflies" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>................................</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-11772578836499327012024-03-18T17:10:00.003+00:002024-03-18T17:10:51.818+00:00Wesley Fuller - All Fuller No Filler<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgqRnOqD6ckvfTaE4cPjeY2dtyaPdQEJJx3U1qytfvGVp4UNzyPjlGhome2qpV6I1NcCbzzjqPzjgcB0oqzNau9_iOLbY1u_Ts3kRXR3-acj5uUzE96Uva602bfT1tNmute-ePeieE0vfiSeq70Nc6o5IkdNJZ4qt7dzxjBBMgTx4RWwDgMP1FAUpKPfg/s1200/1.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgqRnOqD6ckvfTaE4cPjeY2dtyaPdQEJJx3U1qytfvGVp4UNzyPjlGhome2qpV6I1NcCbzzjqPzjgcB0oqzNau9_iOLbY1u_Ts3kRXR3-acj5uUzE96Uva602bfT1tNmute-ePeieE0vfiSeq70Nc6o5IkdNJZ4qt7dzxjBBMgTx4RWwDgMP1FAUpKPfg/w640-h640/1.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>I can't believe that we are in the 7th year since Wesley Fuller's debut album, Inner City Dream. You can read our review <b><a href="https://hearasingle.blogspot.com/search?q=Wesley+fuller" target="_blank">here</a></b>. He's lost none of his accessibility. This second album is as catchy as catchy can be with great big singalong choruses.</p><p>This will be labelled as Power Pop, but it seems more Pop Rock, 70s Pop Rock is the base and it successfully treads that line between Easy Listening and great Pop that those great 70s bands did successfully, in fact it does far more than that.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1219681757/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1429227440/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://cheersquadrecordstapes.bandcamp.com/album/all-fuller-no-filler">All Fuller No Filler by Wesley Fuller</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>The Velvet Affair does this most successfully. It is great Pop Rock, but with big hints of Psych Pop. Jacaranda follows a similar suit, swapping Psych with Jangle this time. Everything Is Strange, however, is all US 60s Sunshine Pop, brilliantly so.</p><p>Trade War rocks proceedings considerably towards 70s New Wave, but All Of My Dreams is splendid UK Top Of The Pops Glam Rock. The gentle psych riff on Inside And Out is countered by great catch all harmonic Pop, particularly on the chorus.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1219681757/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3573963869/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://cheersquadrecordstapes.bandcamp.com/album/all-fuller-no-filler">All Fuller No Filler by Wesley Fuller</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Counting Down The Days is great all together now Pop with a fine arrangement and a chorus that is very ELO. The album is at its best when it is at its jauntiest. Back To Square One is a great example with its 1974-ish vocal matched to a more progressive arrangement and spacey keyboard run.</p><p>And if you want a stomping ear worm that will stay in your head all year then you should hear Alamein Line. All Fuller Not Filler is superb at what it does and that is great Guitar led Pop. If I am being hypercritical,I have just one minor quibble and that is the drum sound which is way too mechanical and holds back the overall feel a little bit. But this album is an absolute winner.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1219681757/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3909582620/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://cheersquadrecordstapes.bandcamp.com/album/all-fuller-no-filler">All Fuller No Filler by Wesley Fuller</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://cheersquadrecordstapes.bandcamp.com/album/all-fuller-no-filler" target="_blank">here</a></b>. As proof, you can read our review of last year's album, A Colossal Waste Of Light <b><a href="https://hearasingle.blogspot.com/2023/03/eyelids-colossal-waste-of-light.html" target="_blank">here</a></b>. This is something different across 26 songs that fill a double LP celebrating their 10 Year career. This isn't a Best Of, but a collection of rarities and outtakes that reveal even more about the band and their influences.</p><p>Contained within are unreleased recent songs, outtakes and long lost 7 inch releases. It is a great mix of originals and covers sitting side by side. It is obviously a big listen, but a highly rewarding one. Long time associate Peter Buck even takes Lead Vocal on It Hurts Me Too, an Elmore Janes song.</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="background-color: #b2b2b2;"><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2315354082/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1610128962/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://musicofeyelids.bandcamp.com/album/no-jigsaw">No Jigsaw by Eyelids</a></iframe></span></p><p><br /></p><p>Taking some of the originals first, the band have never been afraid to Jangle or even out TFC Teenage Fanclub and Masterpiece (Wanna Die) and Psych #1b do that respectively. Polar Bear is all happy clappy Jaunty Guitar Pop.</p><p>The title track is top notch gentle Psych Pop, Cannon And Dee is beautifully Acoustic and Maybe More is so Dropkick. The covers are a selection of the great and the should be, some are faithful, others inspired. The version of Seven Seas is lightened up and jangled splendidly. </p><p><br /></p><p><span style="background-color: #b2b2b2;"><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2315354082/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1116291838/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://musicofeyelids.bandcamp.com/album/no-jigsaw">No Jigsaw by Eyelids</a></iframe></span></p><p><br /></p><p>There has to be a special mention for the cover of one of my favourite songs ever, The Clean's Anything Can Happen. Holiday Innn is wonderful, part Synth Pop, part UK Indie New Wave. The band's take on Enjoy The Silence is faithful yet surprising as is the choice of The Cars' Let The Good Times Roll.</p><p>No Jigsaw gives you a big look into the slightly off kilter world of Eyelids. They do the straight ahead so well, but there is a mischievousness that allows them to experiment. They have always ploughed their own field and long may that continue.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2315354082/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=947628939/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://musicofeyelids.bandcamp.com/album/no-jigsaw">No Jigsaw by Eyelids</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://musicofeyelids.bandcamp.com/album/no-jigsaw" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>............</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-26629155368923555672024-03-17T11:36:00.001+00:002024-03-17T11:36:30.329+00:00Clay Cambeck - Psychoboy Transition <p> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmsGN2GB0fDxDJi5huMasGSoLEFit19SzX0OC5YYVBuNwq4irz9VrzIpwydO3IZUazpbChwHt3ZME5hfAJdCtRwiYfcSqYncqsArQfzUjeYcTZCCPdl6j6txcBgFm1JMZWLEY0x6FdEVQL3lE_v5ZNfgIOJ2wh9MG4AHkp5UuQxPXpk936AR1anzC4P-w/s2048/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmsGN2GB0fDxDJi5huMasGSoLEFit19SzX0OC5YYVBuNwq4irz9VrzIpwydO3IZUazpbChwHt3ZME5hfAJdCtRwiYfcSqYncqsArQfzUjeYcTZCCPdl6j6txcBgFm1JMZWLEY0x6FdEVQL3lE_v5ZNfgIOJ2wh9MG4AHkp5UuQxPXpk936AR1anzC4P-w/w640-h640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a><br /><br /></p><p>Cambeck was Claudio Cambedda of The White Paper, who had been an Italian Beatles Tribute Band who turned to writing their own songs. After 2 EPs and 2 albums, the band split and Cambeck went solo. The White Paper's two albums have been recently remastered on the excellent Gare Du Nord label.</p><p>But we concentrate on the third of Gare Du Nord's releases which is a compilation of Dambeck's solo work in which he explores his influences beyond the Liverpool lads. This of course enters into prime territory and fascination with all things Psych Pop.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3264391275/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=452380891/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://claycambeck.bandcamp.com/album/psychoboy-transition">PSYCHOBOY TRANSITION by CLAY CAMBECK</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>And Psychoboy Transition races from the stalls with the opener, The Other Side Of Mars which is all 1967 UFO Club Toytown wonderment. I Got A Sunshine again feels of the period, but also gives big hints of the second half of the 80s Indie Scene that discovered the genre. It is even a little Bowie-esque at times.</p><p>All The Roads To Himalaya is more traditional 60s Beat Psych Pop, a little White Album maybe. Shocked Clone edges a little towards Pop Rock, but at times it is delivered Torch song like vocally. Yet I Can't Play Anymore starts all Liverpool Express and then ventures into splendid Prog.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3264391275/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=4237860322/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://claycambeck.bandcamp.com/album/psychoboy-transition">PSYCHOBOY TRANSITION by CLAY CAMBECK</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Algorithm is more like a soundscape. All chilled out and melancholic moodiness. But it is the Psych that stands out most. Where's The Trombone / 40 Tailcoats is a magnificent example of Psych that adds Prog Brass and Space Rock at will. It is truly superb.</p><p>But the stand out is Claps And Stamps. Whereas the latter is intentionally chaotic, this is one of the finest examples of Toytown that you are likely to hear and underlines how addictive and Pop led that genre can be. This collection is awe inspiring in its inventiveness.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3264391275/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=4075228370/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://claycambeck.bandcamp.com/album/psychoboy-transition">PSYCHOBOY TRANSITION by CLAY CAMBECK</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://claycambeck.bandcamp.com/album/psychoboy-transition" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>.........</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-40711588807018861162024-03-17T10:48:00.000+00:002024-03-17T10:48:10.587+00:00Dan Parker's Damage Report - I Can See the Moon<p> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMJX8mlYmJ-wgFK-hTVyuw4_cntUbe_5Hzk8duLRAQt2aUSOY03y95FQ_8w9ZLtgghzIvF8n_Gz1UGxov5-mKy-_rr1LRQDKgF_jQBpch4s-7BGvDEcCRvJ7AysEtuIhJkuqxzLIRJuN33aFADUUfJxaBlL9iJXxTzjlfs-0Z7INL_DU837gYpnVaN5wY/s1200/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMJX8mlYmJ-wgFK-hTVyuw4_cntUbe_5Hzk8duLRAQt2aUSOY03y95FQ_8w9ZLtgghzIvF8n_Gz1UGxov5-mKy-_rr1LRQDKgF_jQBpch4s-7BGvDEcCRvJ7AysEtuIhJkuqxzLIRJuN33aFADUUfJxaBlL9iJXxTzjlfs-0Z7INL_DU837gYpnVaN5wY/w640-h640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a><br /><br /></p><p>One of the joys of doing this thing is coming across something unexpected. Amongst the connections that bring a lot to here are surprise submissions and amongst the good, the bad and the ugly, a gem can emerge and here is one.</p><p>Dan Parker is a New York Therapist who teamed up with Alan Weatherhead of Sparklehorse and more fame and has fashioned a great Pop Rock debut album. I initially came across him via a submission for the Listening To This Week submission as a growing amount of potential album releases are. </p><p>The result of that is that the title track appears on tomorrow's weekly episode. The album is very American fayre, Petty-esque at times. It is a little gentle, but splendidly arranged and performed, extremely melodic with highly memorable choruses.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1342950018/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2897151798/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://danparkersdamagereport.bandcamp.com/album/i-can-see-the-moon-lp">I CAN SEE THE MOON - LP by Dan Parker's Damage Report</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>There is a linking theme about the human condition, but that is more in the background as the songs take centerstage. At times, there is a feel of Jeff Lynne's Armchair Theatre album, but there are also some wonderful Country instrumental interruptions. </p><p>Unhinged, for instance is particularly Petty with a wonderful twang, but also adds a surprise violin / fiddle run. LFF is much more melancholic and particularly moody, but it breaks into a magnificent mellotron run and again adds a cracking twang.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1342950018/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3649160890/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://danparkersdamagereport.bandcamp.com/album/i-can-see-the-moon-lp">I CAN SEE THE MOON - LP by Dan Parker's Damage Report</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>My Friend has another big production, this time more 80s with a rockier guitar arrangement that makes you suspect that Parker could rock out if he needed, he just doesn't wish to. He makes you wait until the very end for the rockier Sorry I'll Try and that excels. It gets very Jeff Lynne at this point.</p><p>Lidocaine is the big number and that brings together everything that Parker is great at. I Can See The Moon is a wonderful debut, beautifully written and arranged songs. This is the sort of album that used to be released at well, not so much these days, so you notice when something is top notch and this is.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1342950018/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3339169910/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://danparkersdamagereport.bandcamp.com/album/i-can-see-the-moon-lp">I CAN SEE THE MOON - LP by Dan Parker's Damage Report</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://danparkersdamagereport.bandcamp.com/album/i-can-see-the-moon-lp" target="_blank">here</a></b>. The multi instrumentalist masters Guitar Pop from the late 50s up until the present day.</p><p>Although he is more than comfortable moving around the dial, it is New Wave Power Pop that he excels, although the diversions are maybe even more interesting. Surrounded by a melody overload and great riffs, his gentle-ish vocal suits the material perfectly and what a selection of material it is. </p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2063859922/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2310667739/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://brentseavers.bandcamp.com/album/exhibit-b">Exhibit B by Brent Seavers</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>From the straight ahead Power Pop of Roller Coaster Ride to the 60s Beat led Psych Pop of Fuzz Off, there is not a duff song in sight. The UK New Wave stand out is the magnificent The Noble Cause, all 1978 with a Steve Nieve like Organ rounding things off.</p><p>It could be Nieve again on The Universe And I and the pair of songs sitting together form a great central point to the album and probably mark the album's high point. Both are built around top notch riffs, big choruses and add a fine solo.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2063859922/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3238423349/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://brentseavers.bandcamp.com/album/exhibit-b">Exhibit B by Brent Seavers</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Push Me Down is great 60s UK Beat, yet Evolves is great Mod Pop. Of Poetry is more the 90s second wave of 90s Power Pop, but Her could come from one of the great Pop Rock albums of the 70s. Till It's Over is a really jaunty all together now affair with a killer solo.</p><p>Lullaby is prime time Merseybeat and even late 50s at times and Stumbling could be Squeeze. I can't help thinking of Latter day The Jam listening to the closer, Raining In My Head. Great Pop Rock isn't that easy to find nowadays, this is that and more. Burlington New Jersey five piece have fashioned up a crackerjack of a debut album. The two opening tracks would have you believe that you were in for a corking Psych drenched album. Paranoia Stomp is particularly wonderful being intense and incredibly engaging.</p><p>But then the mood changes considerably. Hoof is great 1972 Classic Rock and Compass heads into a West Coast Folk area, before Dreaming Of You gets even more mellow. The latter is part Country Rock, part Americana with a haunting riff, but still manages to add a spacey keyboard run.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=569934805/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2828898101/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://swansun.bandcamp.com/album/break-the-seal">Break the Seal by Swansun</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>All this peace is interrupted by the magnificent Climb The Tower. It is jaw dropping across its nigh on 9 minutes. Mixing Psych with Prog and a 60s Organ Rock sound that is incredible. One of the best things that I've heard this year. It is mindblowing.</p><p>The only drawback to the band's ambition may be a confusion with the two styles. Both are impeccably performed and mastered. You will know that I find the Psych most engaging, but that is due to my personal taste. Both work as well as each other.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=569934805/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2887982449/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://swansun.bandcamp.com/album/break-the-seal">Break the Seal by Swansun</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Finish The Job closes the album with a real 70s Pop Rock vibe. Break The Seal is an incredibly accomplished debut album, a proper grown up album that adds some great harmonies to the gentler side that it offers. As soon as I had played this, I put it on again.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=569934805/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=616400199/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://swansun.bandcamp.com/album/break-the-seal">Break the Seal by Swansun</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://swansun.bandcamp.com/album/break-the-seal" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>.......................</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-86840071345111250742024-03-09T18:57:00.001+00:002024-03-09T18:57:30.425+00:00Hot Mud - Rehab Rock <p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNyLwskI9nHLJ-xQELWLGNCdwNROcUjOPQflb0hyR7Ga5U3g0lCgn9LNOyK7t3eBKO337iKnJnRp0i3Gzeid9EpFwjVozEtcrrtAAJsPvDQJD1Nbe9wNxLXjbODoKGwGJWQiUnCvjavnI_z-zlSX4J-EAB81huJR5pIYTmvZmyMWipuTae3XfRFxuQUOM/s358/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="358" data-original-width="358" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNyLwskI9nHLJ-xQELWLGNCdwNROcUjOPQflb0hyR7Ga5U3g0lCgn9LNOyK7t3eBKO337iKnJnRp0i3Gzeid9EpFwjVozEtcrrtAAJsPvDQJD1Nbe9wNxLXjbODoKGwGJWQiUnCvjavnI_z-zlSX4J-EAB81huJR5pIYTmvZmyMWipuTae3XfRFxuQUOM/w640-h640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>I've been waiting to tell you about this album for quite some time and Rehab Rock has finally been released. Ottawa's Hot Mud recorded this whilst in addiction recovery and although you might think the subject a tad morose, it is more of a celebration of achievement.</p><p>Residing somewhere between Indie and Slacker Rock, it is incredibly inventive. It may be lo-fi as any one man project can be, but it encompasses influences from Classic Rock to Psych and delivered in a vocal style that is not a million miles away from the likes of Lou Reed.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1117893369/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3132649253/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://hotmud.bandcamp.com/album/rehab-rock">Rehab Rock by Hot Mud</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Indeed Chain Me Down has a funk of say 80s Prince, it is an incredibly addictive song across approaching five minutes. Mistaken Point goes one step further at over 60 minutes and is a sort of breakout from what goes before delivered vocally with a croon with a jauntier riff and Psych ventures instrumentally. </p><p>Lost In The Wind is a cracking slab of Fuzz, almost Darkwave, but with a chipper keyboard run. It is personally my favourite thing on the album with how it mixes Psych with 80s riffs. Disappear could even be something on a Peaky Blinders soundtrack, very Nick Cave.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1117893369/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=4024602457/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://hotmud.bandcamp.com/album/rehab-rock">Rehab Rock by Hot Mud</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Self Destruct is great 60s Garage Rock, yet Where The Bad Kids Go starts all early Roxy Music instrumentally, but vocally, it is far more streetwise than Art School. Learning To Love starts all happy clap, particularly the drum beat and the 80s synth riff.</p><p>Rehab Rock is not going to get you singing along, but neither is it a Woe Is Me memoir. It is largely the story of one man's determination to cut out the bad to be able to celebrate the good. It is incredibly interesting and entirely consuming. You come away thinking wow that was great.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1117893369/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=166263717/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://hotmud.bandcamp.com/album/rehab-rock">Rehab Rock by Hot Mud</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://hotmud.bandcamp.com/album/rehab-rock" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>........................</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-12185953316382675692024-03-09T12:41:00.002+00:002024-03-09T12:41:21.785+00:00Hanemoon - Rain Or Shine<p> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_JVSa9QdFqesRpHIM-wbwU8gV50ktMYqejoTafENYtoK1Sqeqtl_Ma_zpK-plur77xaEiaX9h9JZlN6u4c2WEAf0yB90H2BguClllqg8vxtwtkrBXIwWugGeft4FLVJJ5quqfQPZPnBk0vezzYeb_CqRQmAT1O5QLg_HdKCdUUgJXfkMqetbHHaXvHEg/s1200/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_JVSa9QdFqesRpHIM-wbwU8gV50ktMYqejoTafENYtoK1Sqeqtl_Ma_zpK-plur77xaEiaX9h9JZlN6u4c2WEAf0yB90H2BguClllqg8vxtwtkrBXIwWugGeft4FLVJJ5quqfQPZPnBk0vezzYeb_CqRQmAT1O5QLg_HdKCdUUgJXfkMqetbHHaXvHEg/w640-h640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></p><br /><p></p><div>Jangle Pop is having a moment presently and that must be delighting Darrin at Subjangle, but should please us all. The foundations are built around excellent 80s Indie Pop, the type that you might expect to find on Darrin's excellent Subjangle label.</p><p>Sally Williamson's vocals are exquisite and stand up more than favourably with the better female led bands of that decade. Arrangements are melodic and gentle and held together by a Rhythm Section that know exactly what they are doing.</p><p><br /></p><p><span style="background-color: #b2b2b2;"><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2219425466/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1139129415/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://lordesme.bandcamp.com/album/a-nice-sit-down">A Nice Sit Down by Lord Esme</a></iframe></span></p><p><br /></p><p>At times, you are reminded of The Beths and a less electronic Saint Etienne, but Williamson instrumentally adds multi dimensions. She plays Sax and Succulent City reveals this splendidly. Guitarist Ben Briedis takes on vocals on a wonderfully moody, almost Folk affair.</p><p>Williamson's keyboard playing also takes the quartet in different directions. Number In My Pocket has a spiffing Telstar like 60s Organ Run. Alison Rhodes, a killer single if ever there was one, becomes a jaunty 60s-ish altogether now joy on the chorus.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2219425466/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2532786666/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://lordesme.bandcamp.com/album/a-nice-sit-down">A Nice Sit Down by Lord Esme</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Lots Of Money is built around a shuffle that becomes Lounge at times. They specialise in an up and at 'em style that is very reminiscent of the last couple of years of the UK 70s. scene.</p><p>It is a heady mixture of New Wave and Melodic Punk. The riff and Guitar solo on Livin' At Night is a little Sham 69 vocally, but instrumentally the song feels more late 60s UK Beat. </p><p>Apocalypse is very UK 1978, a sort of Punk Anthem. Yet Drunk Mums can be incredibly melodic, New Australia is top notch New Wave Indie. Beer Baby is noisy, wonderfully and sweaty and aggressive. It does make a pleasant change to listen to something earthy as an antidote to the harmonic Pop Rock.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2480740818/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=278501820/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://drunkmums.bandcamp.com/album/beer-baby">Beer Baby by Drunk Mums</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://drunkmums.bandcamp.com/album/beer-baby" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>............</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-36576916844721515742024-03-07T09:22:00.000+00:002024-03-07T09:22:11.423+00:00Pete Wylie & The Mighty Wah! - Teach Yself Wah! - A Best Of<p> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7ZOlvXRvM-mcJLXR5hIySadwWmGcdSJt3JwSycndn59TgxuYm-edU2ukA-WutLroWnYNGypN-ginV3L-jaC3-mKh5GSRrWiY3WhFVLkF9wT5YqQ9_q6EnlWhV97AEgQVRrhvSN8X6qcaIa3SMEJC9QruYMRBH5x3Z2fnLry0I52BYijeJyZ1URYDjV8s/s1250/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1250" data-original-width="1250" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7ZOlvXRvM-mcJLXR5hIySadwWmGcdSJt3JwSycndn59TgxuYm-edU2ukA-WutLroWnYNGypN-ginV3L-jaC3-mKh5GSRrWiY3WhFVLkF9wT5YqQ9_q6EnlWhV97AEgQVRrhvSN8X6qcaIa3SMEJC9QruYMRBH5x3Z2fnLry0I52BYijeJyZ1URYDjV8s/w640-h640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></p><p><br /></p><p>Ahh. the voice of my youth. Having mentioned in the past how I started to buy albums under my own steam as an 11 year old, Wah noted the time that I got out and about and as a 16 year old, Liverpool's second Merseybeat was so exciting. With venues such as Eric's and music that you felt belonged to you wrapped up in a buoyant Arts scene. You didn't have a much money, if any, but you has Music.</p><p>Pete Wylie signified the scene most because of his sheer love of the city. Not only did he celebrate the place, but he campaigned for it. The Anti Tory, Anti Thatcher venom was down to the devastation across Merseyside in the 80s. Some see the defence of Liverpool as victimhood, but you had to be there to understand how wrecked everything seemed.</p><p>I'm a Wylie completist, so there would not be a lot here for me bar the two re-recordings of Seven Minutes To Midnight and Better Scream and the original version of Imperfect List, but this compilation isn't about that and of course, I have to have the Double Vinyl LP. This is about gathering a new audience whilst gathering listeners who have maybe lost touch with the strength of these songs.</p><p>Wylie was always primarily about the Singles and what songs they are. From the urgency of those early days to his later material, the Pop shone through and became bigger and bigger. Wylie writes anthems with massive choruses and everything you could wish for is here. </p><p>The Story Of The Blues and Come Back sound as wonderful as ever. The solo success of Sinful and the criminally forgotten gem that is Diamond Girl. Free, Falling (In Love With You) and Is That What Love Is All About? from 2017's Pete Sounds shows the great man has still got it.</p><p>It is also great to see the Rap led B Side of The Story Of The Blues, Talking Blues included. Despite all the joy of those earlier singles, I have to mention the 2000 Mighty Wah album, Songs Of Strength And Heartbreak, an album that I still play regularly. Disneyland Forever and the magnificent Heart As Big As Liverpool are included from that album.</p><p>Heart As Big As Liverpool is a song that enchants most who hear it for the first time. A wonderful celebration of the city, but also a splendid example of the power of song. My only regret is that it is an edited version here, even at over 5 minutes. It ends before the Guitar twang and big solo of the full version.</p><p>The cover features the Pete Townshend portrait of Wylie and that looks particularly great in 12 Inch. Pete Wylie remains one of the great songwriters of modern times with a strength of character and dignity matched by an enchanting wit. It is great to see him out touring this Best Of that is something that befits any collection.</p><p><br /></p><p>You can buy and listen to this collection everywhere.</p><p><br /></p><p>..............</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-57285680148061258072024-03-05T18:25:00.005+00:002024-03-05T18:27:02.101+00:00Slight Delay<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTKMYoKoC73HBpu3RMXTMDy6Go87arVz6gaplThqUePbbnaqzRgKmUnLwyLc5S8eK1eW_GpO2aA59tbGuKwXE1K8P1e-7piww8koBva8aH0inUQE1qtgNDFy2KHVglWPyi_-d5Uxpgf9GtUD01CIftvXqP7jREmEUJEuk-jz03-GqyBYiJFRQdC05S11I/s281/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="180" data-original-width="281" height="410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTKMYoKoC73HBpu3RMXTMDy6Go87arVz6gaplThqUePbbnaqzRgKmUnLwyLc5S8eK1eW_GpO2aA59tbGuKwXE1K8P1e-7piww8koBva8aH0inUQE1qtgNDFy2KHVglWPyi_-d5Uxpgf9GtUD01CIftvXqP7jREmEUJEuk-jz03-GqyBYiJFRQdC05S11I/w640-h410/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>In what has seemed to be one thing after another over the past couple of months, the electric went off this morning. It's a wonderful album and you can read the review <b><a href="https://hearasingle.blogspot.com/2021/08/the-easy-button-lost-on-purpose.html" target="_blank">here</a></b>. </p><p>Our aim is to bring new listeners and fans to the great Indie artists around and maybe the 22 songs on that album was a little too many as an introduction to new listeners, but those songs were well worth the investment of time.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=306289167/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1640206418/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://theeasybutton.bandcamp.com/album/through-our-own-parade">Through Our Own Parade by The Easy Button</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>The number here is halved and 11 songs is the ideal number to fully appreciate how great the band are. There are also other changes. Although the base is still essentially 90s Power Pop, the riffs, choruses and sheer melody are as great as ever, there is a notable change in the way songs are produced.</p><p>These gems seemed more focussed, more consistent and direct at times. They can still out Weezer, Weezer, particularly on the magnificent Light Went Out. Their Power Pop chops are as strong as ever, notably on both the urgent Mansions and the even more urgent Big Bad Love.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=306289167/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2466165845/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://theeasybutton.bandcamp.com/album/through-our-own-parade">Through Our Own Parade by The Easy Button</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>They even get a little Maple Mars with the anthemic At The Edge Of Time, maybe even a poppier Teenage Fanclub at times. But there is also room for some great 70s - ish Pop Rock. Valley High Junior Prom is a reminder of those great 70s UK Pop Rock albums with a hint of Glam Rock too.</p><p>Don't Take My Keyboard Away is even a lighters out big sounding closer. Brian Jones one of the great Guitar Pop songwriters and continues to deserve far more recognition. Through Our Own Parade is a feel good sing along joy. Absolutely Splendid!</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=306289167/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2310466627/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://theeasybutton.bandcamp.com/album/through-our-own-parade">Through Our Own Parade by The Easy Button</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://theeasybutton.bandcamp.com/album/through-our-own-parade" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>...................</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-12615796236361499902024-03-02T19:50:00.000+00:002024-03-02T19:50:26.277+00:00Silent Forum - Domestic Majestic<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigF7rnnuDnV1ZaoqrggILn-lpRqHYOJgbcczP9A43y_TwWC-xVX8wnNt75elW0Q4JjmLSsKrXSvqbb4Bvo_wXgl4E3a5LCuGS4z6dCIp8D4WOCvLQXmFzNB4Tp2070NbhM2BZ8U7iYjpdDf4pyqTkX5gzyJwKfRBj7qd5zafzm30PwjTmSmfun-Ua2A9Q/s1200/1.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigF7rnnuDnV1ZaoqrggILn-lpRqHYOJgbcczP9A43y_TwWC-xVX8wnNt75elW0Q4JjmLSsKrXSvqbb4Bvo_wXgl4E3a5LCuGS4z6dCIp8D4WOCvLQXmFzNB4Tp2070NbhM2BZ8U7iYjpdDf4pyqTkX5gzyJwKfRBj7qd5zafzm30PwjTmSmfun-Ua2A9Q/w640-h640/1.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>I don't often trail album releases, it isn't what we do, we are about new music, not a PR agency. So an album has to be special to warrant such a step and this is special. It is also a nod to the excellent Welsh label, Libertino, who are Indie saviours.</p><p>Silent Forum really encapsulate what this place has always been about. We have forever been melted by quirky, inventive, intelligent Indie Pop and Rock that offers unexpected angular arrangements that are lyrically laced with humour and cynicism.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3307394190/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=588181567/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://silentforum.bandcamp.com/album/domestic-majestic">Domestic Majestic by Silent Forum</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>I don't remember the 80s fondly musically. Of course, there were moments, but they were not the norm. Too much plastic, syndromes and plinkity plonkity synths. It seemed more about dressing up than actually what was being released. I gave up on the UK for a good few years, immersing myself in the IRS scene and such.</p><p>Domestic Majestic feels like one of those moments I mentioned, The likes of which XTC, Talking Heads etc unleashed. Albums that made you feel that there were bands who were on your wavelength and capable of rising above the mediocre.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3307394190/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1674930619/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://silentforum.bandcamp.com/album/domestic-majestic">Domestic Majestic by Silent Forum</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>At times, the band remind me of XTC, although they are much more Pop orientated. Ditto The Sugarplastic. But they are even more melodic throughout the song with splendid arrangements and massive choruses.</p><p>Silent Forum can even enter light Prog. Listen to Cat Pose and imagine Jon Anderson singing it. Although very much a Guitar band, Petrol Station Flowers is awesome Synth Pop, almost a Torch song. U OK? bursts out the blocks with an almost Goth Rock riff, great great Indie Rock.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3307394190/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1212764515/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://silentforum.bandcamp.com/album/domestic-majestic">Domestic Majestic by Silent Forum</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Forgive me if I give the impression that this is an 80s album, it isn't, but the vibe is. Lyrics are about the now and incredibly adept and wit laden. For all the cleverness and invention, it is the choruses that grab you most.</p><p>Yes Man has an incredible verse, but the chorus is killer. Here's The Email is probably the best thing on show, but this is an album listened to from start to finish and then to be listened to again. An absolute Tour De Force. An album that deserves to be bought, not listened to on some poxy 128 streaming site.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3307394190/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=755310001/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://silentforum.bandcamp.com/album/domestic-majestic">Domestic Majestic by Silent Forum</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can buy and listen to the album <b><a href="https://silentforum.bandcamp.com/album/domestic-majestic" target="_blank">here</a></b>. Maybe Half Man Half Biscuit will round everything off. </p><p>WCMC specialise in a sort of West Coast vibe, although they are from the UK West Coast. The opening two songs underline that, but there is a wonderful Gentle Psych to both, almost Byrds like. But there is also an ability to compete favourably across multi genres.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3344556652/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2736973313/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://westcoastmusicclub.bandcamp.com/album/out-of-reach">Out Of Reach by West Coast Music Club</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Here's The Weather is all second half of the 80s Indie Fuzz and Nobody Likes You is great 60s UK Beat with lashing of Farfisa. Indeed, there is a melancholic feeling across the album, as though a relationship has ended.</p><p>Turning In Circles could easily fit a Peaky Blinders soundtrack. The epic 6 minutes of The Only one is probably the standout song. It is built around a wonderful riff that is sort of Celtic Psych. I've mentioned in the past that there is an Embrace feel to the band's material at times and Hurting Kind could be Bailiff Bridges finest.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3344556652/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=148639582/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://westcoastmusicclub.bandcamp.com/album/out-of-reach">Out Of Reach by West Coast Music Club</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>West Coast Music Club are storytellers which is enhanced by a lyrical adeptness. Instrumentally, songs are about getting into a groove, a vibe if you like, that washes across you. There will also be the four Listening To This Weeks.</p><p>February wasn't as productive as usual here, so there is a fair bit to catch up on and there are also a lot of release dates in early March. Thank you for your continued support. February is likely to be the highest viewed month ever on here with over 50,000 visits.</p><p><br /></p><p>...........................</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-9551333781348593592024-02-27T19:56:00.000+00:002024-02-27T19:56:08.671+00:00The Real Numbers - Thank You<p> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQai_H6T6VDaejKQslnwh-Y2QcOalu_-MQ7RrAvQU3g8Xbh50OVA8E0ACiRtI5Xtoe47Fsp7dSRdbD5NCccHtleBRTR33sOExfeqdnqJmNMyyWfI3-lTHPEhKdHoMLK4222PZUk-b4cmgfMnOIt7lriaNngd6p_W2mfHBhfVTfAHTw-NZ73CS4d6lmdcE/s1200/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQai_H6T6VDaejKQslnwh-Y2QcOalu_-MQ7RrAvQU3g8Xbh50OVA8E0ACiRtI5Xtoe47Fsp7dSRdbD5NCccHtleBRTR33sOExfeqdnqJmNMyyWfI3-lTHPEhKdHoMLK4222PZUk-b4cmgfMnOIt7lriaNngd6p_W2mfHBhfVTfAHTw-NZ73CS4d6lmdcE/w640-h640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a><br /><br /></p><p>It has been nine years since The Real Numbers' third album, but that wasn't the plan. The San Franciscan quartet had began recording the follow up until the recordings were lost due to a hard drive failure. That and life events meant that 8 years later, a fourth album finally appears.</p><p>You can read the full story on the band's website <b><a href="https://therealnumbers.us" target="_blank">here</a></b>. It is a wonderfully arranged Pop Rock affair that treads into Power Pop, 60s Sunshine Pop, the 90s revival of Guitar Pop and also the 70s golden era of Pop Rock. Indeed, the cover of Andrew Gold's Thank You For Being A Friend is apt as it fits beautifully with what the band are about.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1200602081/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1639442412/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://realnumbers.bandcamp.com/album/thank-you">THANK YOU! by The Real Numbers</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>It is the melody and the versatility that makes this album special. The songs instrumentally are very jaunty, upbeat, jolly if you like. There is a real positivity lyrically and that suits the arrangements and performances. There are also special guests which will delight followers and they aren't here for the ride.</p><p>The best song is probably Lydia Pinkham, an absolute rollercoaster of a song that has Roger Joseph Manning Jr on keyboards and his Pump Organ part is simply awesome. The Jellyfish connection doesn't end there with Tim Smith playing Bass on Lucy's In Love.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1200602081/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1261818436/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://realnumbers.bandcamp.com/album/thank-you">THANK YOU! by The Real Numbers</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>There are some splendid Brass arrangements too, particularly on the excellent singalong Sunshine Pop of You, Me And The Sunshine and the more New Wave Revue style on Lucy's In Love. Sorry For The Mess is more 90s, very Barenaked Ladies. </p><p>News Of The Day is very 70s UK Pop Rock of the highest order and Hello World gets all West Coast Rock. All this jauntiness is ended with the magnificent brooding closer, Souvenirs with the jaw dropping string arrangement. All in All, a really special album. I do hope it isn't the band's last.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1200602081/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=657755601/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://realnumbers.bandcamp.com/album/thank-you">THANK YOU! by The Real Numbers</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>The album is currently available as a Name Your Price <b><a href="https://realnumbers.bandcamp.com/album/thank-you" target="_blank">here</a></b>. The man will always be a master at Psych Pop, but just as on the previous album, Waves (IDHAS Review <b><a href="https://hearasingle.blogspot.com/2021/05/mark-clouds-waves.html" target="_blank">here</a></b>), he is not afraid in venturing further afield.</p><p>There is even more roads taken here, indeed the magnificent Graves For You And Me is pure Jangle Pop. Swearing At The Moon is another surprise. mid 60s UK Beat that isn't a million miles away from Merseybeat and the genre is nailed.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=160118824/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=584526633/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://markandtheclouds.bandcamp.com/album/machines-cant-hear-you">Machines Can't Hear You by Mark And The Clouds</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Heart At The Speed Of Sound is great Cotton Mather like Psych Pop, but like that band, Magnani gets pretty close to Power Pop. There is enough here to suggest that a new career in Pop Rock might be in order, but the album is no way about that.</p><p>Two Minds In My Head could be Lindisfarne, The World Is Falling is Getting It Together In The Country Classic Rock and In The Blink Of An Eye is akin to Prog Folk with a wonderful acoustic guitar slant. Underground is wonderful Folk with a mesmerising melancholic Baroque arrangement.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=160118824/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2850665512/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://markandtheclouds.bandcamp.com/album/machines-cant-hear-you">Machines Can't Hear You by Mark And The Clouds</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>Special mention has to go to three other songs, The splendid Swinging Sixties Brass arrangement and weeping Guitar on Soul Of Nature. The more straight ahead altogether now arrangement on The World Id Falling which shows how refreshing Classic Rock can be, it's not all about old men thinking the are on the us West Coast. Finally there is the epic 11 minutes of The Age Of Clowns which is an absolute Prog masterpiece. </p><p>Magnani suits the Trio format and there are lots of guests to embellish the material further. The Guitar strength is a given, but more applause should be given to the vocals, a weakness too often in this type of material. I can also not think of a better match than Mark & The Clouds and Ian Button's top notch Gare Du Nord label.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=160118824/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=406057094/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://markandtheclouds.bandcamp.com/album/machines-cant-hear-you">Machines Can't Hear You by Mark And The Clouds</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://markandtheclouds.bandcamp.com/album/machines-cant-hear-you" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>.............................</p>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-77188254596064349792024-02-22T22:03:00.002+00:002024-02-23T22:41:18.736+00:00Clone - Knock Out Drops Vol. II<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFA8A3vTDab4vxLmrqXXXg6fg85SaSVTFin0frP2Ini-Qy5q7yXSP5J1mAI0WnimkAZ7tdksCxR6ZIQh4vZIZKs9ycvcpZpbu7HRnW7kXJIFd_N4-678GQTRDJ-pXLqNI8W8qRoZPllB9GhnAyWRPCGvHBfx0SROsfE9RjMdqdXd7ys2VwoGIcFQrFVaY/s1200/88.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFA8A3vTDab4vxLmrqXXXg6fg85SaSVTFin0frP2Ini-Qy5q7yXSP5J1mAI0WnimkAZ7tdksCxR6ZIQh4vZIZKs9ycvcpZpbu7HRnW7kXJIFd_N4-678GQTRDJ-pXLqNI8W8qRoZPllB9GhnAyWRPCGvHBfx0SROsfE9RjMdqdXd7ys2VwoGIcFQrFVaY/w640-h640/88.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br /><div>It has been one hell of a year for Canada. Everything that has been great has often come from that country and here is another. Clone are a five piece from Vancouver, but this album sounds so Brit, 1974 Brit for the most part.</div><div><br /></div><div>Imagine you are me and you are ready to graduate from singles to albums and want your first pocket money purchase to be something you will remember. You would have been delighted if it would have been this. Knock Out Drops Vol. II is great Glam Rock, wonderful showy.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3144891368/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=3530660152/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://cloneband.bandcamp.com/album/knock-out-drops-vol-ii">Knock Out Drops Vol. II by CLONE</a></iframe></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>When it was me, I was fortunate that I got Sparks's Propaganda. Clone have fashioned up seven, good time, all the time gems. When many try this it gets either too pastiche or a mix of the shouty and the show off. This lot can obviously play, but they don't have to prove it.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also with a female front woman, you might expect it to be Suzi Quatro like shoutiness. There's not a bit of that here. Juniper Watters are wonderfully understated, melodic and all the better for it. This gives the songs additional character.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3144891368/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=1586906436/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://cloneband.bandcamp.com/album/knock-out-drops-vol-ii">Knock Out Drops Vol. II by CLONE</a></iframe></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Lyrically, subjects are approached in a way that Shirley Manson does, but there is no noise or angst. These are just great songs, largely Pop Rock, but there are also some great breakout guitar solos and a rhythm section performance to die for. </div><div><br /></div><div>When the album leaves the chosen path, it is equally great. Set The Night On Fire is splendid bigger Rock and Hold Him Down wouldn't be out of place in 90s College Rock or UK Brit Pop. Overall, wonderfully presented and played and a top notch album!<br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><iframe seamless="" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3144891368/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=2508535227/transparent=true/" style="border: 0; height: 120px; width: 100%;"><a href="https://cloneband.bandcamp.com/album/knock-out-drops-vol-ii">Knock Out Drops Vol. II by CLONE</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>You can listen to and buy the album <b><a href="https://cloneband.bandcamp.com/album/knock-out-drops-vol-ii" target="_blank">here</a></b>.</p><p><br /></p><p>...................</p></div>Anything Should Happenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05593722184088140203noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5667681340053932905.post-28954362798883220712024-02-22T21:29:00.000+00:002024-02-22T21:29:03.427+00:00Silent Forum - Domestic Majestic (Heads Up)<p> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3aF7IsFmp9QiTyfqxkMqNPTh0eN4fcLHf9e0GN2Xg01pdv_2PGz3e85KZFq7PQ-T3S0qJoBnX2L60OrUJ5x0zVeufQ-EjeBl26KccDJvFDR4Lj1-7qWSD6pIn_rwvBfKIllc8pKEd-Nh9XUYR8Y7e_WbF2QU1Df9aq-jsjb-h6EghFVm99qiHUxPQo60/s1200/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3aF7IsFmp9QiTyfqxkMqNPTh0eN4fcLHf9e0GN2Xg01pdv_2PGz3e85KZFq7PQ-T3S0qJoBnX2L60OrUJ5x0zVeufQ-EjeBl26KccDJvFDR4Lj1-7qWSD6pIn_rwvBfKIllc8pKEd-Nh9XUYR8Y7e_WbF2QU1Df9aq-jsjb-h6EghFVm99qiHUxPQo60/w640-h640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a><br /><br /></p><p>A quick heads up about an album that I've been waiting to tell you about for ages. A full review will come after tomorrow's release. One of the best things that I've heard in a long time. It must be something in the South Wales water. I still remember Bandicoot getting our album of the year.</p><p>This Cardiff quartet have it all, an ability to sound like the crowd that came up with Franz Ferdinand's angular Rock, but also an inventiveness akin to the 80s Indie Gravitas Pop that we love. They can sound like a UK New Wave 1979 band, but equally border Modern Prog.</p><p><br /></p><p><iframe style="border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3307394190/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/artwork=small/track=588181567/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="https://silentforum.bandcamp.com/album/domestic-majestic">Domestic Majestic by Silent Forum</a></iframe></p><p><br /></p><p>The album is an absolutely wonderful.
