Speedfossil - No Anesthesia

Speedfossil's third album endorses what a great Pop Rock band that the Boston quartet have become. The band make me think of the UK's Emperor Penguin, a sort of US version that offer up splendid laid back songs that ease the soul.

When they let loose, the Power Pop rings out. particularly on Luckiest Man In The World with its Cars like synth. The Verge and Pieces Of Eight both pick up the pace, yet still rock you gently, although the Guitar breaks out on the latter.

Count Me Out goes all Garage Rock to close the album, a song that will sound brilliant in a sweaty club. The general template though is more Crowded House and Squeeze splendidly so. Livin' The Dream is top notch 60s Beat Pop, maybe even 70s Pop Rock.

There is a very English sound, although Disconnected has a very West Coast Psych jangle. Melody and catch all choruses are the soup of the day and No Anaesthesia excels at both. Beautifully played, this is an album to sit back and enjoy.

You can listen to and buy the album here.
