Leon In The Wild - Leon In The Wild

When I started Listening To This Week at the end of last year, I wondered if it would take off as a sort of little brother to the IDHAS 10 Song Mix. Where as the latter is the stuff that we discover, the former was for submissions and would allow 10 - 15 songs a week. I expected to have to wade through a lot of no's, but this week's, which appears later, finally sounds like what we were searching for.

This week's recommendations begin with Leon In The Wild's magnificent Quiet Covers Up A Lot which I've been patiently waiting for the release date. It is a wonderful Pop Rock affair that fits in beautifully with what many of you adore.

All 6 songs here fit together perfectly. The emphasis is on Pop, yet Holy Space Cadet Prodrome turns into great Psych Pop. Track Shoes even ventures into Yacht Rock or more accurately Yacht Pop and Fade turns the lights down low.

Powerlines is a ringer for The Summer Holiday and breaks out into gentle Power Pop, a genre that the whole offering skirts close to. The fact that this is all one man affair from San Francisco is even more creditable. At 20 minutes in length, there is the usual debate of whether this is an EP or Mini album. Whichever, great promise for the future oozes out of the collection's pores.

You can listen to and buy the EP here. You can find out more about Leon In The Wild here.
