Drunk Mums - Beer Baby

The just over five years gap since Urban Cowboy has not mellowed Melbourne quartet Drunk Mums one iota. They specialise in an up and at 'em style that is very reminiscent of the last couple of years of the UK 70s. scene.

It is a heady mixture of New Wave and Melodic Punk. But there are other adventures too. Not My Dad instrumentally is not a million miles away from the material of Motörhead's On Parole and Mutant is a cracking slab of Garage Punk.

Bet On Black is very much in Dr Feelgood territory whilst Saturday is much more in line with the US 90s Punk. The riff and Guitar solo on Livin' At Night is a little Sham 69 vocally, but instrumentally the song feels more late 60s UK Beat.

Apocalypse is very UK 1978, a sort of Punk Anthem. Yet Drunk Mums can be incredibly melodic, New Australia is top notch New Wave Indie. Beer Baby is noisy, wonderfully and sweaty and aggressive. It does make a pleasant change to listen to something earthy as an antidote to the harmonic Pop Rock.

You can listen to and buy the album here.
