Bright Like Stars - Reflections (Bandcamp Name Your Price)

I've been waiting to tell you about this for a while and added Star Dust to a recent Listening To This Week. That still sounds great here and is a sort of centrepiece from the album. I've always liked what Neil Burkdoll does with Whimsical, but this new project is totally engaging.

A move to Germany and a partnership with Neonach's Craig Douglas has resulted in Bright Like Stars and what an hypnotic album this is. Burkdoll's musical creativity matched with Douglas's Vocals and lyrics has delivered a crackerjack of an album.

It isn't like everything you might expect from us. A little noisier, arrangements that hook you and drag you in, but more soundscape than big riffs. It does sound a little 90s at times and Shoegaze like. Although this Shoegaze isn't the meandering mediocrity that genre can bring.

There are also surprises. The Less You Know is really pacey, rockier, part Space Rock, but even more up and at 'em Rock. The End slows things down a little, retaining the duo's strengths, yet also venturing into Prog. Moody and magnificent.

Entangled relies more on a Pop Rock like riff and certainly lighter than what surrounds it, yet Home is all fuzz. Vocally, the album is really melodic, instrumentally, it is totally engaging. Bright Like Stars offer up an album that needs repeated listens, but will engage you and at Name Your Price, what have you got to lose?

You can listen to and buy the album here
