Brian Bringelson - Desperate Days (Futureman Records) 2020      $12

The second solo outing from Brian Bringelson (aka Paul Starling) is a “must have” melody and harmony-drenched masterpiece!  It’s smart pop with big harmonies and even bigger choruses!  “ This is easily Brian’s most accessible and mature album. Can’t say enough about this pure pop gem.

Dave Caruso - Radiophonic Supersonic (Self Released) 2020      $10

There are an abundance of ‘single-worthy’ songs here which is  a nice problem to have. With his best work to date, Radiophonic Supersonic is one of the great melodic pop rock albums of 2020.

Clover - Over & Over (Other Eyes Records) 2020       $13

An archival release of sorts from Ireland’s, by way of Australia Matt Purcell.  In 1994, Matt’s band Clover released their self-titled debut EP to great acclaim. In 1995 and 1997, the band recorded songs for their debut album, but then split. The band reformed in 2019 including guest drummer Mick Baty of Pyramidiacs to record the balance of what would have been their debut album.

Foxycontin - This Time You’re On Your Own (/Sister Raygun Records)      $11

Philly’s Foxycontin are four men devoted to playing high-spirited New Wave Pop Rock. On this, their long awaited debut LP, the band has captured a sound that echoes the halcyon days of Stiff Records as well as the energy of Canvey Island and New Wave. One of the most popular posts on I Don't Hear A Single in 2020.

Helen Love - Power On (Jigsaw Records) 2020      $13

Power On" is Helen Love's eighth album and for those familiar with their sound, you'll be pleased to know that it hasn't changed one bit!  When you have perfected the punky bubblegum pop sound as they have, why change such a winning formula?  The technicolour trio The trio offer up a perfect combination of sunny pop and defiant punk which is a much-needed ray of light.

Cliff Hillis - Life Gets Strange (Tallboy Records) 2020      $11

Rising to the challenge of collaborating with his band during the pandemic, Cliff along with co-producer/musician Greg Maragos (Smash Palace, In The Pocket) and drummer Pat Berkery (War On Drugs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Pernice Brothers) embraced the creative power of technology to complete the record while continuing to remain socially isolated.  Cliff has established himself as one of the leading songwriters in pop-rock music today. Hillis can proudly add another notch to his already abundantly notched “pop belt” with this little gem.

Marveline - Savoury-Toothed Tiger (Self Released)       $12

Marveline is the solo project from Fallon Cush/The Native Strip bass player Pete Marley.  Completely self -produced and recorded in a home studio with Pete playing all of the instruments with the exception of drums (The Nature Strips’ Jess Ciampa contributes).  The record is a fairly low-fi affair filled with melodic songs and the self-deprecatory lyrical tones associated with Pete’s previous projects. “You can easily note The Nature Strip influence, but the album has less in common with that band's XTC similarities, concentrating far more on pop that encompasses a whole range of styles and more straight ahead stuff.
