Sour Ops - Evangeline

The fourth album from Nashville's Sour Ops fully realises their Pop Rock aspirations. You've already heard the splendid Standing In The Shadows on a Listening To This Week Playlist, so now you have a chance to hear what they are really about.

That is somewhere between Power Pop and 80s Rock with notable exceptions. For instance, Don't Make Me Go Down There heads nearer well produced Garage Rock, whilst Night Magic is more 70s Melodic Rock and You're Letting Me Down.

But it is when the band hit the 80s with the likes of Overcoming and Things Better With You, that they excel, great Pop Rock with hints of the decade's synth obsession. Price Harrison's vocals suit the period wonderfully well, a sort of melodic growl with a mix of Tom Petty.

They even go into 60s UK Beat Pop with She's The One. Every song on offer is melodic goodness, well arranged and performed. Sour Ops are not trying to reinvent the wheel, just offer up fine harmonic catchy Pop Rock and they succeed admirably at that.

You can listen to and buy the album here.
