Tucker Bingo - Social Distance

I was introduced to Tucker Bingo via inclusions on the Listening To This Week Playlist and it has been too long since I initially planned to review his album. Potential Album Reviews was really what LTTW had in mind, but it grew into the monster it has become with over 250 submissions a week.

The man hails from Philadelphia and is fairly prolific. I have heard several unreleased songs that are as good, if not better, than anything contained here and that is some compliment as Social Distance is a fine collection of songs.

The base is Pop Rock, at times gentle Blue Collar, but incredibly melodic and performed and arranged wonderfully. At times, there is a better end of the 80s feel. Take for instance the opener here. Origami, is slightly funky with a driving Bass line and an arrangement that sucks you in.

Sinkin Stone has a 60s stomping backbeat and a vocal that is a little Guy Garvey, yet Okay With Me is great Indie Pop. Mater Marie is more left field edging towards melodic Prog, but Rosettes is much more mainstream and has Piano Pop dying to get out.

The album is at its best when it heads for the 80s. Save Me In The City is a great example of this as is the instrumental halfway point that is Walks On Water. You can imagine both being on the Electric Dreams Soundtrack. All in all a splendid example of how catchiness is the way to every listener's heart.

You can listen to and buy the album here.
