UPDATE : It has been so pleasing to see this album feature in the 10 most visited posts in the last 30 days. It still remains the 4th most popular. It is now on Bandcamp here for you to listen to and buy. It is a fine album.
Over to the seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare and the trio that are Hoaster. Another example of our Listening To This Week leading us to discover a great album. That song was Spiderweb and it still sounds as wonderful as it did then.
Spiderweb is top notch 60s Psych Pop at times, but also has a real melodic Indie Rock feel. The related album stretches the genres. Essentially, Hoaster are an Alt Rock band at heart, but stretches into Pop Rock, Indie Rock, Prog and even Power Pop reveal a much wider range.
A Great City has a killer Guitar Pop chorus and even a little Jangle, but morphs into a great closing Prog section. Stars gets very Muse, without the bombasticness or the po face. The trio are locked tight as they are throughout the album.
You Still Don't Care goes more mainstream Indie Rock, whilst Otherside is a modern version of 70s Pop Rock. Mission is a splendid mix of Power Pop and Pop Punk with a killer riff underlining how much variety there is on Everything Is Great.
Clouds even ends proceedings with Supergrass like Britpop or New Wave with a crackerjack Guitar Solo. That is the beauty of the album, you go in expecting one thing and come out having a completely different feel, charmed by the melody and a little in awe of the Power on show, What a great listen!
You can listen to the album on Soundcloud here. Personally, I wish it was on a site that you could buy it and reward the excellence, Bandcamp maybe?

Firstly, Hoaster (everything is) is great music. Much thanks for the review and links.
ReplyDeleteTho the music at Boomplay is in their own propietary music format (.bp), not mp3, etc. Plus you have to install their app on an iphone/ipod or android device to download, there's no DL capability via a PC. Tried DL of their website streams using a couple of online sites that do capture & save to mp3, but could only get 128k quality mp3. Hopefully their music will get morre exposure and eventually appear in other locales.
Thank you for your comment. I had no idea how Boomplay works, I've never used it. I noticed it when searching for the album cover. I already had the album. I have removed the Boomplay comments, bearing in mind what you state.
ReplyDeleteHey guys, Oli from Hoaster here. We've actually just added the album to Bandcamp! You can check it out here. https://hoaster.bandcamp.com/album/everything-is-great
ReplyDeleteAs for Boomplay, we've not actually heard of that streaming service. We use a distrobution service called distrokid so it ends up in places far from our knowledge. We hope you enjoy the Bandcamp versions better. These are lossless WAV files :)
Thanks for sharing our music!
