I Don't Hear A Single Albums Of The Year 2020 : 61-70

It's been difficult to get these choices down to 100. I'm also not a believer in saying one album is better than another. Most of the time you are comparing Apples To Oranges. I'm not a List person, I just think what's the point.

However, for the last few years I have compiled annual Best Of 's  because these posts seem so popular and the aim of this Blog is to get exposure (and Sales) for the artists. There is no meaning or judgement on an album that is Number 1, Number 100 or not on the list. Anything that I review on here, mention on Social Media or play on the Radio Show is as highly recommended.

I would also add that the Top 100 includes albums available as Download Only. To suggest that they are anything less than equal to a Physical release is grossly unfair, even more so in 2020 with all that has happened during the year. To qualify, an album has to be available for sale in any format.

Coupons - Up & Up

 

Albany New York's Coupons are back with their second album. It's been four years since the excellent "Number One Hit Album" and since then they've gone their separate ways, some in separate states, until reforming with two new members. 

18 months on, 15 songs are here and the album has been released on Tip Top Indie label, Counter Intuitive Records. The result is an album that may veer towards the lo fi, but is still steeped in Pop Rock with a splendid Indie slant. 

There is incredible variety on display. This is partly explained by having two members who handle the vocals in Dan LaFave and Collin Reynolds. The song writing is split between these two and Bass Player, Dan Maddalone. This again adds to the variance. 

The addition of Shannon Straney and Dylan Depice also seems to have fleshed out the sound, culminating in a truly splendid album. You want a West Country ballad, here's Cursor, you want some soapbox grunge, here's Ansel. Comatose is three songs in one, all different.

Don't Let Me is a wonderful piano led joy that reminds me of The Jayhawks. Yet, 90's Kids could be Robert Pollard backed by a crack College Rock band. Although every song on the album deserves its place, two stand out most.

Moz Disco is a superb Power Pop affair with a Glam Rock. But what can I say about Synesthesia? The song is an absolute revelation. It starts as moody meandering 60's Psych and morphs into an incredible Guitar close. Up & Up is a fantastic album. All I can add is that you should go and buy it.
