StoneDog - About Time

We are well used to great Trios here and Almeda's Stonedog are another to add to the list. I've seen them described as everything from Indie Rock to Alt Rock, when truth be told, About Time seems most suited in Pop Rock, great melodic Pop Rock.

The six songs take different paths, but all are combined by the sheer catchiness on display. All are splendidly arranged, built on riffs and big memorable choruses. They are also not afraid of branching out, for example the blistering solo on Fighting Words.

Hourglass is a corker of a song that seems more in tune with 90s Rock with its croakier vocal and killer riff, but the solo is classic 70s anthemic. This variety is displayed throughout, particularly when an 80s synth riff lightens up a song unexpectedly.

The Dread mixes Glam Rock with a Classic Rock instrumental and even a Bluesy solo. The stand out to these ears is the wonderful Anastasia Anesthesia which feels very 80s and the chorus is jawdroppingly great.

Matter Of Time underlines the lyrical adeptness that the band have. Normally this type of album can be let down by the cat and mat rhymes, not a bit of that is on these six songs and another guitar solo excels. The theme of Time across the album is there when you look, but isn't obvious, you couldn't spot this as a concept album.

Time Machine is great end of the 70s UK New Wave and masters that easily. About Time is a smasher of an album, showing just how great the genre can be. Able to add depth to such an enjoyable listen is no mean feat. I'm loving About Time!

You can listen to and buy the album as a name your price here.
