This album is so good that I've revisited it as a reminder to followers about how great it is. Burlington New Jersey five piece have fashioned up a crackerjack of a debut album. The two opening tracks would have you believe that you were in for a corking Psych drenched album. Paranoia Stomp is particularly wonderful being intense and incredibly engaging.
But then the mood changes considerably. Hoof is great 1972 Classic Rock and Compass heads into a West Coast Folk area, before Dreaming Of You gets even more mellow. The latter is part Country Rock, part Americana with a haunting riff, but still manages to add a spacey keyboard run.
All this peace is interrupted by the magnificent Climb The Tower. It is jaw dropping across its nigh on 9 minutes. Mixing Psych with Prog and a 60s Organ Rock sound that is incredible. One of the best things that I've heard this year. It is mindblowing.
The only drawback to the band's ambition may be a confusion with the two styles. Both are impeccably performed and mastered. You will know that I find the Psych most engaging, but that is due to my personal taste. Both work as well as each other.
Finish The Job closes the album with a real 70s Pop Rock vibe. Break The Seal is an incredibly accomplished debut album, a proper grown up album that adds some great harmonies to the gentler side that it offers. As soon as I had played this, I put it on again.
You can listen to and buy the album here.
